Chandigarh, March 31
Gurugram District and Sessions Judge Man Mohan Dhonchak today retired after attaining the age of superannuation post serving the judiciary for more than three decades. He will be replaced by District and Sessions Judge Surya Pratap Singh, who was earlier posted as the Registrar Judicial in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Serving as the District and Sessions Judge for nearly six years in three districts of Haryana, Dhonchak was known for his judicial activism and vehemently protecting individual liberties. He had paved the way for computerisation at the level of subordinate judiciary. He and another judicial officer had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court some 19 years ago for the provision of ‘personal computers’ with all accessories to the subordinate judiciary. Taking up their plea, the Bench had ruled: “Society had moved from bullock carts to `Balenos’. Still, we are not willing to dispense with the old typewrites.” Dhonchak was known for his expeditious disposal of cases.
