An Indian Air Force MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft crashed near Moga in Punjab late last night, killing the pilot.
The aircraft was on a routine training sortie when the mishap took place, according to IAF officials.
The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries in the incident, sources said.
A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash, sources said.
The Bison is the upgraded version of the MiG 21 Biz. While, most of the MiG-21, which have been in service since the early 1969s, have been retired, three squadrons remain in service. These, too, are expected to be decommissioned in the next 2-3 years.
